He clung tightly to my chest trusting my movement my lean
my direction
too young to hide his concern or curiosity.
I smiled gently and held him close as I walked forward amidst the swell, the crowd that
seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere.
I could feel his body tense with mine. I relaxed hoping he would do the same,
knowing he would do the same.

reeling us backward and forward toward freedom and honesty.
He looked up and smiled, and with profound simplicity I knew we were home.
